The main opposition YSR Congress is planning to launch an agitation to bring pressure on the Centre to accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh, ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, party Whip in Parliament Y.V.Subba Reddy has said. The State was in an un-envious position now, with the BJP-led Union government remaining dithery on the just demand of the State, even as its ally, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had bartered away the State’s interests to the BJP for political benefits, he said.
“No development will be possible even in the next 40 years, if the Centre does not announce tax concessions and incentives, apart from according special status to AP,” he opined, adding that the party will step up agitation within and outside the Parliament . Alleging that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was competing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in undertaking foreign tours only, without attracting any concrete investments, he said people were disappointed with the one-year rule of the NDA government at the Centre and that of TDP in the State.
Meanwhile, CPI and CPI(M) announced that an agitation will be organised in front of all revenue offices on May 25 demanding special status. We will not rest till special category status is conferred on Andhra Pradesh,” CPI district Secretary K. Aruna said and pressed for early grounding of the projects those were announced by the two governments with much fanfare.
Lok Satta Party State general secretary A.S. Ramesh Reddy said delay in according special status was costing the State dearly.
