Software training for faculty organised

An awareness programme on software training programme on ICT-based teaching, using spoken tutorials and audiovisual methodology, of learning software for engineering and, arts and science college faculty members was organised in G. Pulla Reddy Engineering College, Kurnool, in collaboration with IIT, Mumbai, and the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development on Wednesday.

Director of Foreign Affairs and Alumni Matters in JNTU, Anantapur, V. Sankar, said that the Union government launched the programme on July 5, 2014, with a mission to impart knowledge to students studying in rural areas on par with those studying in premier institutes in cities.

Prof. Kannan, a chemical engineer of IIT, Mumbai, designed the programme, which is part of Digital India initiative of the Central government. IIT, Kharagpur, has placed lecture videos on the website www.spoken-tutorial.org, and students can download the lectures for their benefit, Dr. Sankar said.

In all, 481 tutorials were conducted benefiting 21,157 students. As many as 4,073 students took part in 116 online tests so far. Sixty institutions have utilised the opportunity through FOSS (Free Open Source Software).

Prof. Kavitha, resource person of the centre, detailed about the programme and its advantages for students. Coordinator and Head of Electrical Engineering Department said that Pulla Reddy Engineering College was one amongst the five super resource centres in the State. Director of the college P. Jayarami Reddy and engineering, arts and sciences lecturers in and around the Kurnool district participated.
