The Hyderabad police are investigating into the rape video clips uploaded by social activist Sunitha Krishnan on YouTube to identify the perpetrators of the crime under the ‘ShameTheRapist’ campaign, City Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said on Friday.

However, initial indications are that none of those in the clips appeared to be from Hyderabad, he said.

Talking to presspersons, after announcing the wi-fi access open to all police stations in the twin cities at his office, he said that special police teams were verifying the clips of eight minutes and four minutes long and taking help of community policing units to trace the culprits.

Earlier, Ms. Krishnan posted the shocking clips of five men smiling while sexually assaulting the two women. She stated that she received the two video clips, which were being circulated through WhatsApp, through a friend. She edited the videos to protect identity of the two victims and posted photos of the five rapists on YouTube which went viral on the social media.

The police were also on the look out for persons responsible for damaging rear windscreen of Ms. Krishnan’s car when it was parked outside ‘Prajwala Home’, the voluntary organization run by her at Hussainialam of old city in the morning, after the campaign was taken up through a national television channel.

Ms. Krishnan lodged a complaint over phone with the Charminar ACP Ashok Chakravarthy. The Hussainialam Additional Inspector. Kiran, went to the spot and was collecting details, the ACP said.

"....happy I am on right track. If goons think they can intimidate me this way - take a long walk boss, I will report come what may I will track and I will shame", she had posted on her Facebook account.
