Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam has said that he will help the government officials and staff who are unable to get rid of plastic by presenting a gift of ₹100 and create awareness among them.

Mr. Subrahmanyam along with District Collector A. Md. Imitaz, VMC Commissioner V. Prasanna Venkatesh and other officials took part in the anti-plastic awareness programme conducted at Geetha Nagar as part of the initiative ‘Mana Vijayawada’ launched by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that all the State head offices use only paper cups and material other than plastic to keep plastic at bay.

He also asked the government and private officials in districts to follow the same and create awareness on the adverse effects of plastic use.

Further, he said that he would present a gift of ₹100 to government employees using plastic bottles, covers in the offices if a photo of them with the plastic item is sent to him. “With this, the particular employee will be made aware of the need to shun plastic,” he said.

He said: “Plastic has become a problem worldwide and it is a high time people act to save nature.” He called upon every family in the city to start reducing the use of plastic items starting with households.

Later, officials distributed jute bags donated by CREDAI to locals. Principal Secretary (R&B) M.T. Krishna Babu, Civil Supplies Commissioner Kona Sasidhar and other officials, who took part in the programme, planted saplings.
