Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Saturday termed the proposed State legislature session at Belagavi and Bengaluru an “eyewash” and questioned the Congress government’s commitment to develop north Karnataka.
Speaking at a press conference in Hubballi and Bengaluru, Jagadish Shettar and K.S. Eshwarappa, Leaders of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Council respectively, opposed the eight-day session in Belagavi from July 1 to 10.
A first
For the first time, the government has announced that it will hold its extended session of the State legislature on the budget in two places: The first half will be held in Belagavi from July 1 to 10.
The session will resume in Bengaluru from July 13 to 24. The government had only conducted winter sessions of the legislature in Belagavi. During the session, both Houses of the legislature would pass the State Budget. In March, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah — also the Finance Minister — obtained a vote on account for the first four months of the financial year. Mr. Eshwarappa has opposed the holding of the session in two parts and said it should be held only in the State capital.
