As part of giving a boost to the tourism industry in tail-end Chittoor district, the district Tourism officials are holding a three-day Sankranti Sambaralu at the foot of Puligundu hillock, 15 km from here, from Wednesday to Friday.
Tourism manager (Puligundu unit) P.S. Mamatha told the media that during the last one year, the popular hillock location with its ancient Siva temple drew huge crowds, projecting immense tourism potential in the coming years.
“Sankranti Sambaralu at Puligundu includes Bhogi fires, traditional dances, displaying of Gobbemmas, Rongoli works. Highlight is arrangement of Rayalaseema food festival at the resorts, with choicest and delicious dishes popular in the region. There is an appeal from the local people to prepare ‘Sangati’ and ‘Natu Kodi pulusu’ for the event,” she said.
Apart from the Tourism Department’s buses, the official said that a request was also placed with APSRTC to ply services to Puligundu from Chittoor and Tirupati. Penumuru and Pakala police will be drafted for security at the hillock.
