Drug Control officials on Thursday raided a godown at Chatribagh in Poola Bazaar area and seized medicines supposed to be distributed as physicians’ sample worth ₹15 lakh and arrested one Neelakanteswarappa on charges of selling the stock.

Acting on a tip-off, Drug Control Officers Chandrasekhar and Abid Ali followed Neelakanteswarappa who allegedly procured the medicines and was selling them to RMPs and medical shops. Two bags of medicines were seized during the raid.

“An auto-rickshaw driver rang up Neelakanteswarappa informing him that the medicine stock had arrived. We raided the godown when the auto-rickshaw driver arrived there with the sample medicines,” they said.

Sample medicines worth ₹40 lakh has been seized from the Kurnool city and another ₹10 lakh elsewhere in the district this year so far, Mr. Chandrasekhar said.

Drugs Inspectors Vijayalakshmi (Kurnool Rural), Harihara Teja (Nandyal) and Dada Khalander (Adoni) and constables participated in the raid.
