Ryots to get rain guns: Pulla Rao

October 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - GUNTUR:

Farmers in Guntur district would be provided with rain guns which would jet spray large quantities of water across large farms, as part of a pilot project, Minister for Agriculture P. Pulla Rao, said here on Tuesday.

Speaking after inspecting a demonstration of rain guns at Yadlapadu village, the Minister said farmers would be provided rain guns with a subsidy ranging between 10 per cent and 90 per cent. While each rain gun was priced at Rs.26,000, they would be provided with a subsidy of 90 per cent for farmers holding land ranging between one acre and five acres. A subsidy of 50 per cent would be provided for those holding land over 10 acres.

“The rain guns have a capacity to store 15,000 litres of water and can water 10-12 acres. The State government has been giving priority to modern technological interventions to make farming a profitable enterprise,” the Minister said.

On a pilot basis, the rain guns would be provided to farmers cultivating chilli in the district, Mr. Pulla Rao said.

The rain guns come with an advantage of uniform distribution of water with an adjustable jet breaker arrangement and were suitable for both solid set field irrigation and mechanically moved systems.

Rain guns will be provided with a subsidy ranging between 10 p.c. and 90 p.c., says Agriculture Minister
