Involvement of the youth in the nation-building process was a phenomenon unique to India and other countries should follow its lead, said Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) Vice-Chancellor S.M. Rahamathullah.

Inaugurating the National Youth Parliament Festival -2019 on the campus here, the Mr. Rahamathullah said it was a rare opportunity for the selected 76 students to express their views on various subjects.

Five qualities

He asked them to acquire five qualities to be successful in life - vision, will power, discipline, hard work, and cooperative spirit.

He exhorted the students to deliberate on terrorism, economic offences, climate change and global warming and wanted them to stick to what the SKU’s logo stood for - eternal wisdom through knowledge.

Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) national Vice-Chairman S. Vishnuvardhan Reddy said youth parliaments, being organised by the NYK and the National Service Scheme (NSS), would let three to four students from 625 districts in the country to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss the draft budget.

Next month, four students from Anantapur would be part of a team from Andhra Pradesh taking part in a national discussion through video conferencing from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur (JNTUA) Kalikiri, in Chittoor district.

Meanwhile, heeding a request from Mr. Rahamathullah for more funds from the Centre for the SKU, Mr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy promised him to talk to the Centre.

SKU Rector Shubha, NSS coordinator Varadacharyulu, Youth Parliament Nodal Officer Varalakshmi and Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Social Forestry Venkataramana were present.
