The official machinery heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday with no cyclone threat for north Andhra, even as a well-marked low pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood concentrated into a depression.
A spokesman of the Cyclone Warning Centre here stated that the depression, which lies over westcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, about 280 km south southeast of Puri, was moving towards north northwest of Odisha coast. It was likely to cross between Puri and Chandbali around midnight of Thursday or early Friday, and intensify into a deep depression.
Under its influence, heavy rainfall is expected in one or two places in the areas bordering Odisha in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
Strong winds are likely in north coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
Indian Meteorology Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, is very likely at isolated places in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Squally winds, with a speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph, are very likely along and off Odisha, and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
