Red sanders logs worth₹1 cr. seized, 3 arrested

The Red Sanders Operation wing of the Chittoor police on Tuesday seized 1.3 tonnes of red sanders logs worth over ₹1 crore in the international market along with a van carrying the contraband, and a motorcycle piloting it, and nabbed three youth from Kadapa district, at Oterupalle Cross on Chittoor-Gudiyattam Road in Yadamarri mandal, 20 km from here.

Addressing a press conference here, Additional Superintendent of Police K. Krishnarjuna Rao said a special team led by Deputy SP V.V. Giridhar intercepted a van proceeding towards Gudiyattam in Tamil Nadu at the inter-State border and made the seizure and arrest.

The police team had reportedly noticed the movement of a motorcycle piloting a van in the early hours. Noticing the police, the motorcyclist and the driver of the van tried to escape at high speed, but they were intercepted at Oterupalle Cross.
