The Election Commission has allowed 11 identity cards as acceptable ‘proof of identity’ documents to cast vote in the ensuing elections, but a ration card is not among them.
District Election Officer and Collector P.S. Pradyumna announced on Sunday that though any of the specified documents would be accepted, top priority would always be given to the identity card issued by the Election Commission.
Around 1,800 Central Government employees would be deployed as micro-observers on April 11 in all 3,800 polling stations in Chittoor district for web-casting and video recording the proceedings.
Section 144 would be in place from 6 pm on April 9 and all political campaigning should end by 5 pm, Mr. Pradyumna explained. Liquor outlets would remain closed till the morning of April 12, the Collector said.
Election officials have so far seized ₹12.5 crore worth cash and material and liquor bottles worth a total of ₹2.5 crore.
