Pradesh Congress Committee chief N. Raghuveera Reddy and dozens of Congress activists were arrested when they were canvassing for their party, asking people not to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar where the Assembly elections were on, at Secunderabad Railway Station on Sunday morning.
Mr. Reddy, leading the a group of party activists, got into the Patna Express halted on the platform-1 and spoke to the passengers hailing from Bihar as well as the Telugus living in that State. Urging them not to vote for the BJP in Bihar where the Assembly elections are on, Mr. Reddy said that the BJP had cheated people of AP and warned that a similar fate would befall Bihar, if the party voted to power. The activists also tied flexis and banners to the train.
Mr. Reddy spoke on ‘how AP was being denied Special Category Status and special package for its backward regions which was promised to the State. “Although Mr. Modi has promised Bihar a financial package of Rs. 1.25 lakh crore, a major chunk of it comprises the funds under regular Central schemes,” he said. After 45 minutes of the campaign, Government Railway Police arrested the PCC chief and the cadres on charges of canvassing on railway station premises without permission and for causing inconvenience to passengers. They were later let off on personal surety.
