Pulses worth Rs. 11 lakh recovered in raids

The officials of the Vigilance and Enforcement Department continued raids on the godowns and recovered pulses worth Rs. 11 lakh horded there illegally in the Gudur town limits here on Thursday.

Official sources said that the officials seized 25 quintals of red gram, 21 quintals of black gram and 35 quintals of green gram in these raids.

Proceedings had been initiated to book cases against the owners of the godown, the officials said.

The surprise raids were being conducted by the Vigilance and Enforcement Department in the wake of reports on rampant hoarding of various pulses in the wake of the hike in prices in retail market. Pulses horded illegally were being transported to the district to various places, said the officials.
