An attempt made by Speaker Nadendla Manohar to convince the pro-Telangana parties to allow smooth conduct of the Assembly failed to break the deadlock as the TRS, the BJP and the CPI remained adamant on not allowing the proceedings till the completion of the ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally on Thursday.
As the proceedings were disrupted for the third consecutive day, the Speaker convened a meeting of the floor leaders “to explore a way out.’’
The TDP stayed away from the meeting in protest against, what it called, the “dictatorial attitude’’ of the Chair in not allowing its members to speak.
The members, including the representatives of the YSR Congress, the CPI (Marxist) and Independent Nagam Janardhan Reddy held deliberations for more than three hours to thrash out a solution.
The Chair reportedly offered to open up the floor of the House allowing the members to explain the efforts they made to secure permission for the proposed protest.
The members were asked to register their protest against the alleged mass arrests and bind over of the Telangana leaders and activists at the end of the government’s reply to the debate. TRS, BJP and CPI members sought time to discuss the offer only to reject it later.
“They were keen on being suspended from the House. The government does not want to suspend them as it will send wrong signals and give political mileage to these parties that are bent on disrupting the proceedings,” a Congress leader said.
