The Police on Thursday solved the mysterious gold theft that took place at the Suryapet bus station about a month ago and recovered the stolen 2.6 kg of gold ornaments from a Maharashtra-based inter-state burglar gang boarded on a RTC bus. Two of the seven-member gang were arrested.

SP T. Prabhakar Rao said that the owner of Sree Yash Jewelleries, Hyderabad had lodged a complaint with them on November 23 saying that 2.6 kg of gold ornaments, which was carried by their two employees, was stolen at Suryapet bus station.

The two employees -- Dinesh Prasad and Murali Mohan-- had taken some new designs from Yash Jewelleries to Vijayawada on November 20 to sell them.

They were returning to Hyderabad in a RTC bus on November 22 night. Some miscreants decamped with the gold ornaments at Suryapet. The SP constituted a team to probe the case.

Understanding that a Pune-based burglar gang comprising seven members under the leadership of Sham Rao Jadhav had stolen the ornaments, the Nalgonda Police, in co-ordination with the Maharashtra Police, monitored the movement of the gang.

The police nabbed Hanumant Shulka and Vinod Chinthamani in Suryapet on Wednesday.

The SP said that the two accused confessed that six of their gang had landed in Vijayawada on November 19 and monitored the movement of the employees of Yash Jewelleries. Planning to steal the ornaments from the duo, the two accused boarded the bus in which Mr. Prasad and Mr. Mohan were travelling. The remaining four members followed the bus in a car. The accused decamped with the bag at Suyapet bus station when one of the employee got down to attend to the call of nature and another was in deep sleep. After the theft, the accused proceeded towards Pune in the car. A manhunt is to nab the gang leader and other accused.
