The Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project is all set to break the Guinness Book record in terms of using the highest volume of concrete in a given day.
The project contractor Navayuga Engineering Company attempts to fill 28,000 to 30,000 cubic metres of concrete in the spillway channel within 24 hours starting at 8 am on January 6. The feat is expected to breach the record set in Dubai while building a hotel.
After 14 hours of work, 19,279 cubic meters of concrete was filled into the channel by 10 p.m. on Sunday. After the work is completed successfully, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is expected to announce the world record at Polavaram on Monday.
Massive effort
About 7,000 MT cement, 3,000 workers and 225 engineers are involved in the task as per information from the Navayuga. Besides, the massive effort involves 90 transit mixers, five telebelts, four book placers and 20 agitator trucks delivering concrete from three batching plants of 240 cubit meters per hour capacity and seven plants of 120 cubic meters per hour capacity as per the company sources.
“The project will be witnessed by Guinness World Records official adjudicator Rishi Nath along with 10 witnesses from universities and reputed institutions who will act as external party to testify and authenticate after monitoring the process round-the-clock through a video feed. The feat will be accomplished in the presence of Mr. Naidu,” said the source.
Polavaram, the national project funded by the Centre and executed by the State, is expected to supply water and stabilise over 75 lakh acres. The project is scheduled to supply water through gravity by the end of 2019.
