‘Excessive usage’
The excessive usage of plastics is threatening marine life, birds and animals apart from contributing to the rise in temperatures, K. Kameswara Rao, a retired professor of Andhra University, has said.
He was addressing school children at a programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) in association with the Indian Youth For Society (IYFS), a voluntary organization at Keystone School, Seethammadhara, on the occasion World Earth Day on Monday.
He said that by planting more saplings the temperatures could be reduced.
Assistant Environmental Engineer of APPCB P. Srinivas Rao told the children that coal-based thermal power plants were contributing to global warming (warming of earth). He informed that this can be reduced by controlling the usage of electricity. Around 100 schoolchildren attended the meet.
