The A.P. State Housing Corporation could ground only 60% of the houses allotted to beneficiaries and 39% were completed in the past five years. The corporation, as part of its subsidy component, had spent ₹763.60 crore since 2014 on rural and urban housing schemes.
‘Poll code stalled work’
While 1,71,991 housing units were allotted to beneficiaries over the past five years, only 1,31,913 had received the administrative sanction. And only 51,452 units had been completed. Work had begun for 79,131 units, accounting for 60% of the sanctioned house units.
More than 22,000 units were at various stages, while work on others were stalled due to the Model Code of Conduct in force owing to the elections, said A.P. State Housing Project Director M. Chandramouli Reddy.
Under NTR Rural Housing scheme, beneficiaries were given ₹1.5 lakh as subsidy and an SC/ST beneficiary got ₹50,000 extra, explained Mr. Reddy.
Each beneficiary of the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY)-NTR (Urban) scheme gets ₹2.5 lakh as subsidy out of which the Centre bears ₹1.5 lakh. All units under the Urban Development Agency areas get ₹1.5 lakh from the Centre and ₹50,000 from the State government.
While the project cost for the 1,31,913 sanctioned units is ₹3,722.87 crore, only 52,782 units could be completed.
