November 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KAKINADA:

One labourer was killed and two others sustained severe injuries in an explosion at Coromandel International’s fertilizer plant on the city outskirts on Sunday morning.

E. Lova Raju, 27, died after sustaining severe burns in the explosion.

Two others, G. Bangarraju and Gouse Mohiuddin, too sustained injuries. After the initial fire fighting exercise, the three were rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared Lova Raju being brought dead. The condition of Bangaraju and Mohiuddin is said to be critical. Lova Raju was a native of Amalapuram and was working in the company as contract labourer for the last five years.

The injured are also on contract.

While most workers attributed the incident to a gas cylinder explosion, some said the leakage of ammonium could be the reason.

Home Minister N. Chinarajappa rushed to the plant.

He directed police to register a case against the management.
