Olympic Day Run evokes good response

Students, sportspersons, officials and public representatives carried Olympic torches and participated in an impressive Olympic Day Run from five centres in Kurnool city to the Raj Vihar Centre with a sportsman spirit on Thursday.

Chairman of A.P. Olympic Association and All-India Kabaddi Federation K.E. Prabhakar expressed happiness that everybody participated in the run with zeal . He said that steps were being taken to promote kabaddi to neutralise the undue craze for cricket, he said. The TDP leader assured to conduct national sports events in Kurnool to encourage sportspersons.

Kurnool MLA and A.P. Handball Association president S.V. Mohan Reddy said Kurnool has a tradition to take part in all sports events without political considerations. Students should study well and evince keen interest in sports, the YSR Congress leader said.

Education and sports should be given equal importance, as sports would promote health and provide relaxation, Kodumur MLA Gouru Charitha Reddy, Panyam MLA Aijaiah and Nandikotkur MLA Mani Gandhi said.

Students of Montessori School and Cyclone Academy performed dances enthralling the gathering. The guests presented prizes and mementos to students who excelled in sports talent tests and various sports contests.

Kurnool Superintendent of Police Ake Ravikrishna and United Club secretary Balaram flagged off the Olympic Day Run and participated along with others.

Kurnool DCC Bank Chairman Mallikarjuna Reddy, Educationist K.V. Subba Reddy, Private Schools Association leaders Srinivasa Reddy, Wilson and I.M. Swamy, District Olympic Association president Vijaya Kumar, secretary Ramanjaneyulu, State Handball Association honorary president Karnati Pulla Reddy, PETs Association president Srinath and secretary Zakir participated.
