Deputy Chief Minister (Revenue and Endowments) K.E. Krishnamurthy on Friday minced no words in expressing his displeasure over the functioning of the officials of the Revenue Department.
“The revenue officials are not matching the expectations of the government. There is a grouse among the people that officials are not responding positively to their grievances and petitions,” he said, addressing a review meeting with the Joint Collectors and revenue officials here on Friday.
“I usually do not interfere with the duties of the officials. But I am forced to do it as the magnitude of the problem demands it,” he said.
“ The officials are rejecting applications on trivial grounds. Also, it is noticed that the government’s orders are not being implemented in a few instances. It is tarnishing the image of the government. If that is the situation, people will lose confidence in the administration,” he observed.
The onus was on the government machinery to implement the policies, he said. Ex-servicemen and freedom-fighters had been allowed to transfer the rights on lands allotted to them after 10 years of the allotment. It was also made clear that there was no need for NOC. But, they were being made to run from pillar to post, he said. Later, addressing the media, he said the officials were asked to update 22-A list on a war-footing. The district Collectors were directed to take disciplinary action against the officials neglecting their duties. The last date for accepting applications for regularisation of ‘sada bainama’ lands would be extended to August 20, he said. “People can register the unregistered sale deeds and agreements made on white papers during the drive. The registrations would be done free of cost,” he said.
Woman’s complaint
Referring to a complaint lodged by a woman employee of the Endowments Department against an NGO leader, Kripakaram, he directed the officials to warn the leader against harassing the employee. Action would be taken against him if did not mend his ways, he said. CCLA Anil Chandra Punetha was present.
