The East Godavari district administration has geared up to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Phethai and opened control rooms at the Collectorate and in the revenue divisional offices in Amalapuram and Peddapuram.

Reviewing the arrangements with the officials here on Friday, District Collector Kartikeya Misra wanted the officials to be on alert round the clock and make necessary arrangements for evacuation and rehabilitation of people living in the low-lying areas. Highlighting the need for improving the communications network, he said that leaves were cancelled to all the employees and contingency fund of ₹3 lakh each was being released to the Tehsildars of the affected mandals.
