He's been in business for just over two-and-a-half decades and won a dozen awards, all Nandis from the State government. He does have a dream, that of making his presence felt on the tinseltown, that is, in the commercial front.

That's Tatikonda Laxmipathi for you, who runs Laxmipathi Productions that has grown from a small outfit handling print ads including a majority of hoardings, to the moving ones with hard-hitting and strong social messages. He has over 500 advertisement films and a hundred informative ones, including corporate films for the private and government sector.

Pathy, as he is known among friends had his taste of the first Nandi when ‘Akshara Jyothi', his documentary on the total literacy programme in the State capital, got him one for being the third best producer and director in 1993-94.

The year 1994-95 got him a Golden Nandi for the first time, for another film on literacy, ‘Akshara Vijayam'. Golden Nandis followed him for ‘Seethakka Salahalu' (1995-96) and ‘Margadarshi' in 1997-98.

Two films he did for the police department, ‘Rakshakudu', got him a Silver Nandi in 1999-2000, while his latest, ‘Karthavyam' on the subject of traffic awareness among people in 2009-2010 gave him a Gold Nandi.

Many awards

It has reached a stage where awards are no longer the be-all and the end-all, for him.

Ask him about the details and he smiles, quipping, “I am not very sure yet, so don't ask me about the cast and crew, the story and script. Suffice it to say that it will be very close to my heart. It will have a touch of commercialism sure, but I will not let go of the opportunity to use my full-length feature film for carrying a message to society.”
