Nutrine factory likely to announce lockout

October 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - CHITTOOR:

Tension prevailed on the premises of the Nutrine Confectionery Company Limited in Chittoor town on Wednesday evening.

The company management held talks with the employees’ union leaders on the grounds that the factory was running in losses.

There is a version that the factory would announce lockout in a couple of days. The factory was founded in 1952 and the workforce at that time was more than 3,000.

Fall in production

In recent years, the production slipped from 4,000 metric tonnes to 400 tonnes, and the number of workers fell to 295.

A final decision is expected in a couple of days, according to the union leaders.
