CPI(M) has decided to conduct village-level meetings to garner support to oppose the land acquisition for the proposed nuclear power project at Kovvada of Ranasthalam mandal in the district. As the government planning to acquire around 1,000 acres for the project, the CPI(M) organised a ‘maha dharna’ at Ranasthalam with villagers and party workers. The party has also organised rallies to get the support from all the sections of society. Speaking on the occasion. CPI(M) State Secretariat member M. Krishnamurthy and party senor leader Chowdary Tejeswara Rao alleged that the government was trying to acquire land by hook or crook. CITU leader D.Govinda Rao said workers of various industries would join the movement as their lives would also be affected and the government might acquire more land in future. The villagers vowed not to allow the officials into the villages including Kovvada, Ramachandrapuram, Kotapalem and other places. They alleged that the government had been harassing them by stopping all welfare schemes and creating a situation to accept the so called packages.
