Sit back peacefully along the shore and wait for a fish to take the bait. If that’s not your style, take a bicycle, hit the track, sweat it out and burn the calories.

Along the Hussainsagar , the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) would soon be providing both the options – a pond to fish and a track to cycle.

Consultants associated with the cleaning of Hussainsagar have suggested the two proposals which are under active consideration of the HMDA. The idea of creating a fishing facility at Siddhartha pond adjacent to the lake was mooted after the officials noticed a rise in fish here.

According to an official, the pond which is on the lower side of the sewerage treatment plant has fresh water, and over the months, the presence of fish has been increasing.

“Different types of fishes have been spotted here, including big fish such as a 5-kg catfish . This can be an ideal fishing pond,” he said.

Local enthusiasts are often seen here with fishing rods and this triggered the idea of creating a proper facility at the pond that is spread over 3 acres. “Hyderabad does not have good fishing facilities. We thought why not create a fishing zone where interested persons from different parts of the city can come and sit back for a leisurely fishing session,” he said.

Other aspects being worked out here by the HMDA include a cycling track from the pond that would pass below the Khairatabad flyover and touch another pond, the Lake View on the other side. The expected circuit runs for about 1.50 km with a circular route along the shoreline. “Even if one wants to pedal along at a leisurely pace, the cycle way is an ideal setting with a water front and trees dotted,” the official said.
