Two persons, who were trying to escape after allegedly murdering a homemaker, were nabbed within five minutes of committing the crime by a police party enforcing the helmet rule, who thought that the duo were trying to flee from them to avoid penalty for not wearing helmet, at Narayanavanam mandal headquarters, 10 km from Puttur town, on Monday.

Sujatha (34) of Railway Kodur town of Kadapa district was married to a private medical practitioner Siva Kumar (40) of Narayanavanam 15 years ago. They have a son and a daughter.

Kumar allegedly developed extramarital relationship with some women and this led to disturbances in the family.

Kumar allegedly hired the duo from Auto Nagar in Tirupati for murdering Sujatha. The duo arrived at Sujatha's house around 11 a.m., barged inside and bolted the door. With the help of a piece of clothing, they strangled Sujatha, who shouted for help.

The tenants upstairs rushed down and knocked the door, while the duo escaped through another door. In a few seconds, running on the Narayanavanam Main Road, they caught the attention of the patrol personnel, numbering around a dozen, waiting to pounce on motorcyclists without helmets. Thinking that the youth were running away as they were not wearing helmets, Deputy SP U. Suryanarayana directed the Sub-Inspectors and constables to catch hold of them, and issue challans.

When one of them was caught, his companion plunged into the thorny bushes on the roadside. In no time, the residents of the locality came running to the spot and informed the police that the duo had attempted to snatch a chain and assault a homemaker. In a few minutes, the second youth too was nabbed while he was lurking in the bushes.

The DSP along with the patrol party rushed to the colony, and seeing the woman gasping for breath rushed her to the Government Hospital at Puttur, where she was declared brought dead. It was reported that the nabbed duo had disclosed the plan of the deceased’s husband, who allegedly paid them ₹50,000 as advance.

Meanwhile, the police informed the husband saying his wife was in danger at the government hospital. He rushed to the hospital feigning innocence, only to be nabbed immediately.
