The Andhra Pradesh State-level Committee on the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules (SWM), 2016, will submit a consolidated report to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) by August-end, documenting the existing practices and management of solid waste in the urban bodies across the State. The committee was constituted by the NGT.
Its chairman B. Seshasayana Reddy on Monday said, “The inspection of solid waste management in all the urban local bodies, including Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Vijayawada, has been completed in the State, and the committee is preparing to submit the consolidated report to the NGT by August-end.”
“Our report speaks on the existing methods of SWM and facilities in the urban local bodies, apart from advocating the measures to address the lacunae in meeting the SWM rules,” said Mr. Reddy at a press meet here.
Sharing the details of the field reports of the committee, APPCB Superintending Engineer and committee member A. Subba Rao said, “Barely 1,000 TPD of solid waste was being managed by all the urban local bodies as against the generated 6,400 TPD in the State.”
The committee held talks with Krishna Collector A. Md. Imtiaz on the implementation of the SWM rules in the district.
Mr. Imtiaz told the committee that a total of 773 TPD (Tonnes Per Day) was being generated in the district and robust methods of bio-mining and waste processing facilities had been adopted. In Gudiwada, 50 TPD of solid waste was being managed and 24 TPD in Nandigama.
The committee accompanied by APPCB Environmental Engineer S.S.S. Murali and Machilipatnam Municipal Commissioner S. Siva Ramakrishna inspected the dumping yard in Machilipatnam.
