The APSRTC has introduced a new fleet of city bus services on select routes in the city, but will the public carrier replace the ubiquitous autorickshaw which till today remains the popular public transport system?
Commuting by an auto makes sense in the city interspersed with railway crossings and narrow roads. Students, working men and women and people coming from different parts to the city, have been dependant on the auto for many years. The ‘share auto’ system remains the popular choice taking people to various destinations with cheap fares.
But people of the city could now look up to the swanky, low floored, BS-IV city buses to take them to various destinations offering them a comfortable ride when compared to the rickety ride in the auto.
The APSRTC has introduced 13 new bus services in four select routes. The routes are — Syamala Nagar to Pedakakani via NTR Bus Station Complex, SVN Colony to Nambur, NTR Bus Station Complex to Yanamadala and Perecharla to Chebrolu.
“We have ensured that all the four entry and exit routes to Guntur are covered. The new fleet of buses offer safety comfort and are fitted with TVs, LED lights. We will be further increasing the fleet after assessing the passenger response,’’ said Regional Manager Srihari.
The RTC officials have also said that the fares have been fixed at competitive rates. The maximum fare for Perecharla to Chebrolu Rs.21, SVN Colony – Nambur is Rs.17, Syamala Nagar to Pedakakani is Rs.14 and NTR Bus Station to Yanamadala is Rs.15.
The main road, Mahatma Gandhi Road from the NTR Bus Station Complex, branches out to three major arterial roads: one leading to Lakshmipuram and Ring Road, another leading to Pattabhipuram Road and the third, the Grand Trunk Road heading towards Narasaraopet and Sattenapalli.
