Nava Nirmana Deeksha: CM asks students, staff to join

Programme is for people to rededicate themselves and to draw inspiration for developing the State, he says

May 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wants students to participate in the proposed Nava Nirmana Deeksha on June 2.

Addressing a meeting of the collectors where the Nava Nirmana Deeksha programme was discussed on Friday, he said students from sixth standard onwards should participate and asked “how would they know history if they were not made to participate”. He said employees based in Hyderabad should also take part in the programme to be held across the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The Deeksha is for people to rededicate themselves and to draw inspiration for developing the State, he said.

Critical of the hasty and improper manner in which the previous Congress-led UPA government divided the united State without even a capital, Mr. Naidu said the people in Andhra Pradesh believed that the State would never be divided and were greatly disturbed by the consequences. That was why the candidates of the 125-year-old Congress party did not even get deposits in the elections.

He also accused the previous government of trying to create a rift among the people of the three regions by appointing Sivaramakrishnan committee on the pretext of identifying the new capital.

He said June 2 was not a day of celebration but meant to observe Nava Nirmana Deeksha. “It is not AP versus Telangana issue”, he added. The Telangana government appeared to be not interested in cooperating with Andhra Pradesh and was still harping on sentiment.

He said the Deeksha was not a programme of the government alone, but of the people across the 13 districts.

From June 3, Janmabhoomi and Maa Vooru programme would be taken till June 7. Progress reports would be placed before the people during the five-day programme, the Chief Minister said.

Many initiatives were taken up during the past one year and problems were being resolved. The five assurances that were given soon after he became Chief Minister on June 8 last were fulfilled.

Referring to transfers, the Chief Minister said they should be done in a transparent manner with emphasis on “right person in right place”. He said government schemes should reach to every eligible person.
