The State government would take steps to protect the provisions of the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act and bring the issue to the notice of the Supreme Court on behalf of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Tuesday.

“The Act is protecting the interests of the SCs and the STs and the State government is not going to remain a mute spectator when the Centre is trying to dilute it,” he said at a public meeting in the tiny village of Amalapuram Rural mandal on the fourth day of the ‘Nava Nirmana Deeksha’ after unveiling the statue of B.R. Ambedkar.

“The BJP-led government has done injustice to the State in the last four years, which we are trying to overcome in various ways and ensuring the implementation of welfare schemes to all the sections,” he said.

Calling upon the people not to fall prey to the tall promises being made by Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr. Naidu reminded the public of the 11 cases pending against him. “Many people are making promises. But only Telugu Desam Party government ensures the implementation of each and every promise,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister participated in the ‘Grama Darshini’ public meeting at the nearby Samanasa village after taking part in the ‘Maha Mrutyunjaya Yagam’ being conducted at the Rameswara Swamy temple.

Rural development

Expressing dissatisfaction over the officials for failing to make proper arrangements for the meeting, Mr. Naidu wondered why the nodal officer was not being nominated for the mandal. Stating that rural development was given top priority by the TDP government, he said road connectivity, rural water supply, drainage facility and uninterrupted power supply were becoming a reality only during the TDP regime.

Bridge course

Interacting with the students of the social welfare hostel where the first of its kind bridge course was being conducted for the slow learners, the Chief Minister advised them to have proper vision about their future and put in hard work to reach their goal. “Telugu students are proving their mettle in all the national level entrance tests and competitive examinations, because of the infrastructure and facilities provided by our government,” he said.
