Naidu reiterates commitment to debt waiver scheme

‘By checking red sanders smuggling govt. earned Rs. 3,000 cr.’

May 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:02 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Giving a direction to the party cadre on the last day of Mahanadu, Telugu Desam Party president N.Chandrababu Naidu has asked them not to be defensive about opposition criticism but take the significant work done so far to people.

“People voted for Telugu Desam reposing faith in us and we will have to fulfil their aspirations by working harder and correcting any lapses,” he told them.

While one party deceived people, another party was steeped in corruption, he said in an oblique reference to the Congress and YSR Congress parties. “People don’t trust these two parties any more and this further increased our responsibility to improve our credibility,” he told the party workers.

Speaking on the resolution moved by party leaders on implementation of manifesto here on Friday, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said despite facing several crises post bifurcation and revenue deficit, the TDP government did its best to implement many election promises in the first year. “We are trying to develop despite several constraints and ensured 24x7 power supply to domestic and industry sectors. Launched Pattiseema lift irrigation project under linking of rivers scheme to benefit parched Rayalaseema,” he said.

While the Opposition parties dismissed the loan waiver assurance as impossible to deliver, the government proved them wrong by implementing the first phase and sanctioned Rs.7,300 crore so far, he said.

The debt relief scheme alone would cost about Rs.25,000 crore and it would be implemented transparently following all the norms. While there are 13,000 villages, each village would get about Rs.2 crore under debt relief scheme, he added. DWCRA groups would be given Rs.10,000 crore and the government was extending enhanced pensions. So far welfare measures alone amounted to Rs.40,000 crore apart from increasing benefits under NTR health insurance, white cardholders and unorganised sector.

“We are pro-poor government and speak through actions. Some are worried about expenditure on welfare but I want people who trusted me to be happy,” he said.

Another major achievement of the government was curtailing smugglers and thieves of natural and mineral resources. By doing so, government earned about Rs.3,000 crore on red sanders, Rs.530 crore through sand mining, Rs.2,000 crore from barytes mines, he said.

Mr.Naidu said after Nava Nirmana Deeksha on June 2, party leaders and workers would present government’s progress report to people in every village from June 3 to 8.
