Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has decided not to appear before the Dharmabad court in Maharashtra on September 21. Instead, he would send his lawyer to file a petition to recall the Non-Bailable Arrest Warrant (NBW) issued against him by the court in connection with the Babli protest case.

The legal experts, sources say, suggested to Mr. Naidu various options including filing either a recall or a quash petition. Close associates and senior leaders suggested him not to appear before the court personally. In fact, he did not receive any copy of the NBW. Only a letter relating to the warrant was received. Mr. Naidu’s lawyer would inform the situation to the court and request it to recall/quash the NBW. It was expected that the court would take the facts into consideration and cancel the NBW, sources say.

Mr. Naidu, who has been saying he did not receive any summons, held a series of consultations with legal experts, officials and party leaders. He is slated to leave for America on September 22 to deliver a keynote address at a convention on ‘Financing Sustainable Agriculture – Global challenges and opportunities’ on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to be held on September 24.
