Government Chief Whip in the Council Ummareddy Venkateswarlu on Sunday accused TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu of making baseless allegations against the YSRCP government due to his conviction that his political career had come to an end.

Addressing the media along with Gajuwaka MLA Tippala Nagi Reddy and Payakaraopeta MLA G. Babu Rao, he said that during the two-day review here over the TDP’s poor show in the elections, Mr. Naidu realised that going to the elections alone had cost him dearly.

While admitting that walking out of the NDA was responsible for the party’s debacle, Mr. Naidu did hint that if required he would align with the BJP and the Jana Sena Party, the YSRCP leader said.

Mr. Venkateswarlu, with a note of sarcasm, said Mr. Naidu, with his 40 years experience, could not understand the pulse of the people and was not hesitating to make sweeping allegations against the government.

‘Jagan humiliated’

Accusing Mr. Naidu of humiliating Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy when he was Leader of Opposition by not allowing him to come out of the airport to take part in a candlelight protest to press for Special Category Status, he said even after the knife attack, Mr. Naidu said it was stage managed to get cheap publicity.

Referring to the TDP claim that harassment by the YSRCP government had forced former Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao to commit suicide, Mr. Venkateswarlu alleged that Mr. Naidu had distanced him from party affairs after his defeat.

“M. Naidu had created a rift in Siva Prasada Rao’s family and did not involve him in party meetings. He was not a timid person to take the extreme step,” the YSRCP leader said.
