Even as general election results are yet to be out, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked party cadres to gear up for the local body elections.

“We cannot afford The local body elections are fast approaching,” he said addressing a review meeting on the party’s performance in the recently-conducted general elections, on Monday.

Mr. Naidu said that the rank and file of the party have to visit the constituencies next month. They have to work for the party’s success in the local body elections. The leaders have to thank every section of society that extended its support to the TDP, he said.

The party expects seriousness among everyone during counting on May 23.

“It is our responsibility to be vigilant until the results are announced.” The developments post-elections were different from the ones that preceded the battle of ballot. The candidates would have to choose the agents very carefully. Imparting training to agents on counting in every constituency was necessary. Also, the agents should be prepared to face difficult situations.

The agents, who leave the counting hall premises on the pretext that there was no majority, would cause immense loss to the party. The agents would have to sit back in the hall until the last vote was counted. If required, written complaints would have to be lodged at the end of every round, and take acknowledgement for the same, he said.

The electors turned up at the polling stations by 7 a.m. About 30%of the EVMs did not function across the State.

Pat for ‘CBN Army’

“Following the call given by me on April 11, the electors came back to cast their votes and stood in the lines for hours. The TDP has overwhelming support from the people. Every election, some force comes out in support of the Telugu Desam. This time, the “CBN Army” played a key role.

About 3,200 members worked in Kuppam alone. More than 70,000 to 80,000 CBN Army members worked in the State indicating the mood of the people, he said.

TDP State president Kimidi Kala Venkat Rao spoke.
