The Meenakshi Energy Private Limited (MEPL) – GDF Suez, which operates a thermal project near Krishnapatnam here, will set up three more Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants to mitigate the water woes of the village.
The plants will be set up at Gummaladibba Kothavooru, Gummaladibba Pathavooru and Varagali villages in Chillakur mandal as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. According to its Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jamil Amin, the organisation has already set up three RO plants, with a capacity to produce 1000 litres potable water an hour each, at Thamminapatnam, Thamminapatnam-Harijanawada and Lingavaram villages. It has handed over the plants to the respective panchayats to ensure supply of potable water to the neighbouring villages, he said.
Meanwhile, MEPL–GDF Suez has handed over 700 water containers of 20 litre capacity each to Thamminapatnam and Lingavaram panchayats here on Thursday.
Thanking the MEPL – GDF Suez Thamminapatnam, Sarpanch Kolangari Venkateswarlu and his Lingavaram counterpart Penumadi Ramesh said that the initiative would help villagers fetch safe drinking water from the RO plants. The MEPL – GDF Suez, which has been operating (2 X 150 MW) coal fired power generation units, is in the process of expanding 2 X 350 MW units at the same location near Krishnapatnam port.
