MLAs, MLCs keep Kiran busy

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy spent the busiest day in the Secretariat on Tuesday as a record number of MLAs and MLCs belonging to various political parties called on him on a single day.

About 80 legislators from TDP,TRS, MIM besides Congress met the Chief Minister to represent on various issues of public concern in their constituencies -- aid from Chief Minister's Relief Fund, drinking water, roads and wherever possible, Mr. Reddy obliged them with on the spot sanctions. About 12 TDP MLAs gave a representation on farmers' issues while Harish Rao and others from TRS, MIM MLAs Akabaruddin, Pasha Qadri were among those who met the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, it is learnt, held a meeting with available 16 Cabinet Ministers at his camp office late in the evening to give shape to a proposed 10-day programme to give benefits worth Rs.1,800 crore with exclusive focus on 36 lakh farmers and 50 lakh women.

The special programme, likely to be launched from September 15, is expected to give benefits worth Rs.1,191 crore for farmers. For women, Rs.600 crore benefits would be extended. The Rs.1,000 crore ‘Stree Nidhi' was also given green signal, it is learnt. The impromptu Cabinet meeting, which was attended by several Telangana Ministers, also discussed crop holiday, irrigation, status of reservoirs, paddy procurement and availability of godown space. The meeting also decided to launch the second phase of Rachabanda in 45 days and Indira Jala Prabha on October 1.
