Rural Development Minister Kimidi Mrunalini on Wednesday asked power consumers to use LED bulbs and save power for nation building.

After launching the LED bulbs distribution programme at fort junction on Wednesday, she said 10 lakh bulbs (approximately) would be distributed to domestic consumers in the district. The distribution of LED bulbs was launched as a pilot project in Guntur, Anantapur, Srikakulam and West Godavari and distributed 57 lakh LED bulbs of 7W capacity.

However, following appeals from people, in the second phase, two bulbs of 9W capacity were being distributed in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Prakasam and Chittoor districts. She said AP ranked first by distributing 60 lakh LED bulbs, whereas other States put together have distributed only 1.86 crore so far, she said.

“In Vizianagaram, two bulbs of 9W capacity were being distributed through 108 outlets to 5, 07, 894 domestic consumers and in the remaining two districts under EPDCL the distribution will be completed in the next two months,” APEPDCL CMD Revu Mutyala Raju said.

Some 26 lakh bulbs were distributed in both Srikakulam and West Godavari, he added. He asked consumers to dial 1912 for power complaints.
