Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was on Friday apprised by the district machinery about the controversy surrounding the suicide of B. Shilpa, a postgraduate medical student at SV Medical College, a couple of days back.
Collector P.S. Pradyumna, who called on Mr. Naidu at Amaravati, explained the chronological sequence of events that led to the unfortunate death, including the spate of allegations made by her citing harassment by seniors, the series of demonstrations held by medical students following her death and the action initiated by the Director of Medical Education in the form of replacing the principal and suspension of the main accused. It may be recalled that the government had initiated CID probe into the matter. Mr. Naidu immediately rang up the higher-ups in the Police Department and instructed that the probe be fast-tracked and conducted in an impartial manner.
Judicial probe sought
Meanwhile, the AP Government Doctors Association, which met in Tirupati with convenor D. Jayadheer, Chairman B. Venkateswarlu and SVMC president T. Muneeswara Reddy, demanded a judicial inquiry into the issue. They wondered how the college authorities could be held responsible when the student had left the campus six months back, having been relieved after completion of her course.
Similarly, they sought to know the logic behind accusing her professors when she had failed in a theory paper (which is corrected after jumbling).
