Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday alleged that the Telugu Desam government had failed to control the land and sand mafia in the State, including in Srikakualm district.

He said that Minister for Transport K. Atchannaidu, despite hailing from the district, had failed to tackle pressing issues such as Chronic Kidney Disease in the Uddanam region, problems being faced by coconut farmers and rampant groundwater pollution in the Pydibhimavaram industrial zone.

Industrial pollution

Addressing a public meeting at 7 Road junction here as part of his porata yatra, Mr. Pawan said his party would try to come out with solutions to all problems of each and every Assembly constituency in the State.

The JSP chief said he would tour in August for finalising the manifesto after collecting inputs from the public. He expressed concern over the establishment of atomic power project in Ranasthalam mandal.

“People don’t have drinking water in the Etcherla area with the pollution of groundwater. Many bore wells have been sealed to prevent people from drinking the water. It indicates the pathetic situation in the industrial zone,” he said.

“We are going to organise a meeting in Visakhapatnam very soon to discuss north Andhra issues, including large-scale migration from Srikakulam district,” he said.

Mr. Pawan promised door delivery of essential commodities to elderly people as they were finding it difficult to visit ration shops. He also promised sanction of pension to physically challenged persons in the event of the JSP coming to power.

Earlier, he held a meeting with prominent persons of the district. Some of them expressed their willingness to contest on the JSP ticket, according to sources.

Mr. Pawan has covered all the 10 Assembly constituencies in the district since May 20, the day on which he began his visit.

The JSP chief is likely to announce his tour schedule in Vizianagaram district soon.
