Long wait at fag end of journey

Despite complaints, trains are being stopped at outer for hours

A frequent traveller has lamented that trains are getting delayed due to halting at the outer for hours. “I travelled by the 22204 Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Duronto Express recently. The journey was fine till the train reached Duvvada. It was detained at Kancharapalem gate for about 50 minutes and finally reached Visakhapatnam station 1 hour behind schedule,” says the traveller, Satyanarayana.

“This situation is being regularly experienced by passengers of all trains originating/terminating at Visakhapatnam. But, taxing the passengers, who are paying premium fares to travel on the prestigious train, at the fag end of their journey is a major cause for concern and should be addressed immediately,” he says.

“I travelled by the Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam Garibrath recently. The two small dustbins at either end of the coach were filled in no time and passengers were throwing the wastes on the floors,” says K.V. Prasad, who travelled by that train last week.

“We had to walk through the wastes and it presented an awful sight on the AC train. Though the railways should provide larger dustbins, passengers should also be more responsible and abstain from throwing wastes on the floor.”

“The departure time of the train at Secunderabad has been changed from 8.15 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. from October 1. I overheard my fellow passengers saying that the train was being regularly delayed by about an hour in reaching Visakhapatnam due to the change in the departure timing. True to their words, that day also it was delayed by about an hour,” says Mr. Siva.

“The journey on the private AC Sleeper bus from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada was good. The bus, which was supposed to leave at 10 p.m. on Sunday (October 18), left 20 minutes late. The cell charging points in the bus were, however, not functioning,” says Ramesh Deepak of Visakhapatnam.

“The bus reached Vijayawada by 5.30 a.m. but we were asked to alight about 2 km away from the city as pandals were erected beside the roads in view of Dasara celebrations and the bus could be damaged,” he said.
