Lightning claims two lives

Two people including a graduate were killed after they were struck by lightning in Kurnool and Srikakulam districts on Monday.

The graduate, Dharmavaram Dharma Raju, 23, was struck by lightning, when he, along with his mother took shelter under a tree during heavy rain at Unchala village on Singanamala road in Kurnool mandal on Monday evening. Dharma Raju had completed his graduation from Osmania Degree College in Kurnool. He was rushed to hospital, but doctors there declared him brought dead.

In a similar incident, A 45-year-old man died after being struck by lightning at Sivarampuram village in Saravakota mandal on Monday morning. The deceased have been identified as Appayya and he is survived by his wife and three daughters. According to locals, Appayya went to his mango orchard which was damaged by the heavy rain, when the lightning struck him killing him on the spot. Saravakota MRO Umamaheswara Rao noted the information and assured the help from the government in accordance with rules.

As many as six persons have been killed by lightening in the district in the last one week.
