The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has permitted Andhra Pradesh to draw 10 tmcft water to “meet the drinking water requirements of Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts.” The 10 tmcft, permitted by the board on Tuesday, is in addition to the 26 tmcft permitted on July 27. The board, in its last order, instructed both the States to release 52 tmcft from Srisailam to Nagarjunasagar at the rate of 2 tmcft a day from July 28 to August 22 through power generation. However, in the 11 days that lapsed, only 10 tmcft, that is a little less than half of what was agreed upon, could be released to Sagar, which is downstream. The board, in order to meet the requirements of the fresh order, asked A.P. and Telangana to release 12 tmcft from Srisailam to Sagar to enable supply of 10 tmcft to Krishna Delta through generation at Srisailam from August 7 to 18 at the rate of one tmcft a day.
