Kiran government staring at another no trust move

November 19, 2011 02:45 pm | Updated 07:33 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Kiran Kumar Reddy government has to brace itself to facing a no-confidence motion in the winter session of Assembly, likely to begin on December 1, as the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party, has decided to give such a notice.

After the Telugu Desam Party's announcement on Friday, Congress MLAs loyal to Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, (TRS) hinted at supporting it, though for different reasons. It remains to be seen how serious these parties are to mobilise numbers and carry out their threat to the logical end.

‘Firm on moving it'

Telugu Desam Party's Polit Bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu had declared that the party was firm on moving the motion this time round on the first day of the winter session.

He dared the MLAs supporting Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy to back the no trust motion and show their real strength. In the past YSR Congress claimed it had the support of 27 MLAs, but now it has reduced it to nine. Media reports suggest that they were slipping away one after another, he said. “Now we will have to see if they bail out Congress like they did in the Speaker and Deputy Speaker's elections or support our motion.”

The senior Telugu Desam Party's leader recalled that though the party gave a prior no trust notice on July 4, the government managed to escape as the House was abruptly adjourned. “We will take the government to task now for neglecting people's problems and resorting to corruption and irregularities.”

TDP doubting TRS

Though the TRS said that it would whole heartedly support a no confidence motion by the TDP, it doubted the latter's conviction as it might back out at the last minute. TRS MLA T. Harish Rao said the party would support the motion in a bid to pull down the State government as it deceived the people of Telangana.

It did not mean that the TRS was supportive of the TDP as that party had also ditched people of Telangana. The party would back the motion because the TDP was in no position to ascend to power.

Final decision later

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders said though they were not averse to supporting the motion, a final decision would be taken in a couple of days. This was because party president Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was busy with his ‘Odarpu yatra' in Guntur district. Party leaders maintained that they would vote against the government whenever a no-confidence motion is moved.

Ruling party leaders expressed confidence that they would sail through easily in defeating the motion. They expressed doubts whether Jagan loyalists would support such a move when most of them were planning to return to the Congress.
