Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President N. Raghuveera Reddy on Thursday alleged that both Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had pledged AP’s interests to the NDA government by trying to please Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He found fault with Mr. Jagan for extending unconditional support to the NDA in the presidential election.

Speaking at a meeting organised in the Indira Vignan Bhavan, he alleged that Mr. Jagan and Mr. Chandrababu were showing ‘3D movie’ instead of trying to achieve the Special Category Status. “As many as 14 parties supported the Special Category Status. We will hold a public meeting in Vijayawada. Party’s vice-president Rahul Gandhi will attend the meeting and highlight the injustice meted out to the State,” said Mr. Raghuveera Reddy.

Party senior leaders Killi Kruparani, Kondru Muralimohan, Dronamraju Srinivas and others explained to him the enrolment process in the district. Mr. Raghuveera directed them to ensure enrolment of 100 members in each polling booth. He hoped that Mr. Rahul Gandhi would become president of the party in October when organisational elections would be completed. Former MLC Peerukatla Viswaprasad, Srikakulam DCC president Dola Jaganmohana Rao, senior leaders Ratnala Narasimha Murthy, Chowdary Satish and others participated in the meeting.

Booth-level panels

Vizianagaram Correspondent adds: The membership drive, taken up ahead of the organisational elections, would be completed by May 15, said Mr. Raghuveera Reddy. After the drive, the PCC would appoint booth-level committees with at least 50 members each to strengthen the party.

Mr. Raghuveera, who was here to participate in the membership drive, said the party had been working with the aim of making Mr. Gandhi the Prime Minister in the 2019 elections. The party would elect him with the consent of all senior leaders as AICC president, he added.

Party leaders Ms. Krupa Rani, Mr. Dronamraju Srinivas, Behera Bhaskar, Yedla Adiraju and others were present.
