Inter-State kidnappers’ gang nabbed in Chittoor

The Chittoor police on Thursday nabbed a 12-member inter-State gang operating in A.P. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and seized cash, gold and vehicles all worth over Rs. 30 lakh.

Addressing a press conference here, Chittoor SP Ghattamaneni Srinivas and Additional SP Yelisala Ratna said a special party while carrying out vehicle checks at Gandhipuram between Chittoor and Palamaner on the Bengaluru national highway in the early hours of Thursday, noticed two SUVs trying to give them a slip. The team chased the vehicles, intercepted them and rounded up 12 members of an inter-State gang involved in kidnappings, chain-snatching and vehicle thefts. Cash amounting to Rs. 18 lakh, gold and silver ornaments (worth over Rs. 12 lakh) and the two SUVs were seized from them.

During interrogation, it came to light that the gang was wanted in the kidnapping of a son of a jewellery merchant near Chittoor in September 2014 and an ayurvedic doctor and his friend at Palamaner on June 3 this year.
