A 16-year-old Intermediate student committed suicide in a private residential college on the outskirts of Kurnool city on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Dileep Kumar. He hung himself to death with his pants in the hostel’s bathroom at around 9:30 p.m.

According to police, Dileep had family problems. His father allegedly murdered his wife after questioning her fidelity a few months ago. The father, after release from remand, had also committed suicide. Dileep later moved in with his grandparents and continued education with the help of a trust. “He even took a sick leave for 10 days recently and was with his grandparents,” said Kurnool police. The police said that investigation is on.Meanwhile, BJP ST Morcha vice-president Ramchandra Naik staged a protest at the college alleging that the college was responsible for the death of Dileep. “We will not stop protesting till the college is shut down,” Mr. Naik said. “They take huge amounts of money from people and mistreat children,” he added. People in distress can contact police helpline 100 for counselling.
