On growth path: Hinterland connectivity to NH 16 is set to give a boost to industrial development in Nellore district.

The industrial hubs in Krishnapatnam, Gudur and Nayudupeta areas in Nellore district here are poised for a major transformation in the next two years because of several highway projects being implemented to connect these places to the farther hinterland regions in Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

The widening of existing roads into four and six-lane highways is being taken up under the prestigious Sagaramala and Bharatmala projects, aimed at developing top quality infrastructure to attract big industries and creating huge employment opportunities.

Almost all the highway expansion projects here are eventually connecting to NH 16 as it has been an arterial highway linking the local industries with the distant cities and towns in the hinterland.

One such high potential connectivity project is the upgrading of existing road between Naidupeta in Nellore district and Mulbagal in the neighbouring Karnataka State. The preparation of detailed project report of this project has been entrusted to Yongma Consultants.

This project will connect high volume traffic from Bengaluru and Tirupati to NH 16 at Naidupeta town in southern Nellore district. It is expected to prove as a major fillip to industrial hubs and projects located in Gudur, Naidupeta, Sullurupeta and Tada areas.

“This infrastructure will help attract industries and also develop interconnected residential townships in the area.

The Gudur-Naidupeta area will see a manifold industrial growth, thanks to these projects and the coming Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC),” says Anil Yendluri, Chief Executive Officer, Krishnapatnam port.

A ₹670-cr project has been sanctioned to upgrade the existing R&B road into a 4-lane highway from Naidupeta junction to Krishnapatnam port area via Siddavaram and Karlapudi. This will pass through the interior rural areas located nearer to the coast.

These highway projects will increase long-distance connectivity to the thermal projects, edible oil refineries, industrial parks, leather complex and so on.

Leather park

P. Arun Babu, Revenue Divisional Officer, Gudur, has said that a mega international leather park will become a reality soon at Kothapatnam village under Gudur division.

The government has already sanctioned ₹90 crore for development of roads, drains, streetlighting and electricity in the allotted land. It is a massive venture aimed at creating nearly 15,000 jobs.
