Illegal structures demolished , 3 held

Vizianagaram Municipal officials on Thursday razed illegal encroachments on the Clock Tower-Nehru Park-City Bus Stand-Krishna theatre stretch and at Dasannapeta Rythu Bazaar on the Ring Road and at Mee Seva Centre areas in the town on Thursday. They also arrested CITU leaders Reddy Sankar Rao and V. Ramachandra Rao and one vendor Srinivasa Rao for trying to prevent the officials from carrying out demolitions.

The Municipality has taken up road widening in congested areas illegally occupied by traders.

When a number of encroachers who constitute push cart vendors and petty traders staged protest with the support of the CITU leaders, police swung into action and dispersed the vendors.

They said officials had not given them prior information about the demolitions.

The demolitions continued till 3 p.m. Municipal Commissioner Somannarayana directed vendors to shift their businesses to platforms on Rama Naidu Road.

Officials would clear encroachments on the Railway Station Road on Friday.
